Fulfill Your Ministry
And [Jesus] gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:11-12, ESV).
We are saints called to the work of ministry, equipped by the Word and by Christ-gifted leaders. Our ministries—in all their God-intended diversities and seasons—are supreme reasons we’re here on this planet. Not one of us is gift-less or purposeless. Not one of us is missing a ministry. You, fulfill yours. Exhort me to fulfill mine. No one can do it for us. Let’s forsake trying to do someone else’s ministry and just fulfill our own. In so doing, we will certainly endure hardship and, whether or not we have the gifting of an evangelist, often do the work of an evangelist, sharing Christ’s glorious gospel. I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus (Acts 20:24, ESV). Our lives are of unspeakable value to God. We are precious to Him. Let’s settle that matter so an overdeveloped preciousness to self does not end up protecting us from our own divine purpose. We don’t have long here. We don’t have time to waste on infighting, foolishness, and fear. We don’t have months to drum up the approval of all our peers. We don’t have years to keep procrastinating. Let’s not just plan to do what it takes. Let’s do what it takes. The joy of the Lord, my friend, is our strength. | ||
