Oswald Chambers: Prayer - A Holy Occupation |
Day 16 of 30We ask amiss when we ask simply with the determination to outdo the patience of God until He gives us permission to do what we want to do. Such asking is mere sentimental unreality. And we ask amiss when we ask things from life and not from God; asking from the desire for self-realization is in direct opposition to Christ’s desire for us. The more we realize ourselves the less we will rely on God. Are we asking things of God or of life?Pray because you have a Father, not because it quietens you, and give Him time to answer. Reflection Questions: Am I satisfied with what God gives me or do I want what the world has to give as well? When I pray am I truly trying to find out who God is, or am I trying to find out who I am? 41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. |
