Desert Guide by David Jeremiah

Desert Guide

The Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your soul in drought, and strengthen your bones; you shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.
Isaiah 58:11

When we’re standing at the brink of an obstacle or challenge, it is difficult to remain optimistic. Sometimes it is not the baggage we carry, but the path ahead that stirs up discouragement in our souls. When we are in a desert experience, the new year may not feel like a new beginning at all.

Regardless of what the new year holds for you, God’s companionship will never forsake you. In Scripture God sustains His people through the darkest of times: deserts, betrayal, fire, failure, deep waters, loss, and grief.

God is our greatest asset and deepest hope in the new year. He changes situations and the hearts of people in an instant. When we are stuck and afraid, He offers strength. Begin by asking Him how to pray for the new year, and to open your eyes to His endless possibilities.

Nothing paralyzes our lives like the attitude that things can never change. We need to remind ourselves that God can change things.…If we see only the problems, we will be defeated; but if we see the possibilities in the problems, we can have victory.
