The world's first revival was at Sinai. While Moses was in the presence of God, receiving the commandments, the people he led were dancing naked before a pagan idol. In anger, Moses rebuked them and called for repentance. He reminded them that while they had come out of Egypt, Egypt had not come out of them. Sorrow gripped their hearts. An extended prayer meeting took place, and a revival swept through Israel.
Three important factors contributed to this national revival. First, there was repentance. Moses had told God that unless He went with them to the Promised Land, they would not go. In earnest prayer, he repented for the people then called them to repent. They became convicted, and in humble prayer, they pleaded for forgiveness. Next, a "tent of meeting" was pitched outside the camp. People came daily to pray, and their hunger for God revived each person. The final factor was intercessory prayer. Moses prayed when he learned of the Israelites' sin, confessing their sins daily, pleading with God to forgive them. As a result of the Sinai revival, the people destroyed their idols from Egypt; they repudiated any return to slavery; and they became God's voice for their day.
The revival that swept Sinai can sweep our lands in this last day before Jesus returns. North America can tear down her idols, break loose from her slavery to sin, and become God's voice in these last days. God's people can bring this about through prayer.
“And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.”
Exodus 33:15 KJV
