And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God. Then all the people answered, “Amen, Amen!” while lifting up their hands. And they bowed their heads and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground.
Nehemiah 8:6
It could happen at the reading of a relative’s will, wherein you are named as a beneficiary. It could happen when you are hired or promoted or accepted to college. Maybe it happens when you are the grand-prize winner in a contest. Or when your beloved says “Yes” to your marriage proposal.
Good news can produce excitement, passion, joy, surprise, and even worship. That’s right—the revelation of profoundly good news can bring a response of worship. That’s what happened to the Jews who had returned from exile in Babylon and were attempting to rebuild Jerusalem when Ezra read to them from God’s Word (Nehemiah 8). What good news did they hear? That God’s love for them was everlasting, that His blessings were never ending, that His love and protection were theirs if they would give themselves to Him. To which they responded, “Amen, Amen!”
Let the Good News of God’s Word move you to worship each time you read God’s “great and precious promises” (2 Peter 1:4).
When we see even a small glimpse of God’s holiness, we will bow in worship.
