During his vast citywide campaigns, evangelist Dwight Moody often devoted a sermon in each place to the subject of God’s promises. An associate explained, “He thought that very few of us ever fully considered how much our loving Father really had promised to us. These promises, like precious gems, were to be found in every book of the Bible.” Moody would sometimes ask audience members to shout out their favorite biblical promises, and the spirit of the room reverberated with one great biblical promise after another—all of which God has kept, is keeping, and will keep perfectly. He is not slack concerning His promises.
Had you been in one of Moody’s meetings a hundred years ago, what promise would you have shouted? Recall it now. Then remember: We have not just one, but every one of God’s unerring and infallible promises available to us.
Moody himself kept one promise close to his heart, especially when he felt overwhelmed by his work. Perhaps it’s the very verse you need today: “Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You” (Jeremiah 32:17).
God never made a promise that was too good to be true.
