Friday, June 8 The Burden Bearer    Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:10    In her memoirs, Remembering, Bula Dell Blanchard describes her anguish when her young daughter, Darlene, battled a serious illness in India. Bula prayed and wept but had no inner peace, only relentless anxiety. One day little Darlene looked up and said, “Must I always be sick?” That sent Darlene into a determined time of prayer. The Lord seemed to ask, “Will you accept My will?” “Yes, Lord,” Bula prayed, “Your will be done. Do what you will. Take Darlene or let us keep her.”

“What relief!” Bula later wrote. “What release! What a good feeling! The burden was now on the Great Burden Bearer. All on Him. I could smile again. I could talk about our little daughter to callers at the mission bungalow and not cry…. What peace!” Over time, and with the help of the Christian Medical Center at Vellore, Darlene recovered. Our burdens are sometimes too heavy to bear, but the Great Burden Bearer says, “Cast your burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain you” (Psalm 55:22). When you can’t understand your circumstances, you can still pray, “Yes, Lord. Your will be done.” Thank you, Lord, for the miracle of medical missions and for the miracle of the peace which only You can give. Thank you, Lord, for your presence. Bula Dell Blanchard
