Draw Near / CHILD OF PRAYER

CHILD OF PRAYER

Israel impeached God as governor and demanded a king. That decision would cost them dearly in days to come. However, one of the blessings that came during these trying times was that God appointed prophets to bring His Word to both kings and subjects. Even though Moses had prophesied, prophets were not really in the forefront until the time of the monarchy. In fact, Acts 3:24 calls Samuel the first prophet, indicating that when man went from divine government to human government, the office of the prophets increased in importance and influence.

Born of pious parents, in answer to their deepest prayers, Samuel was an unusual child. He was a Levite; he grew up in the tabernacle and learned all the details of worship. Years later, he started the famous school for prophets in which groups of men studied God's Word in Samaria, Gilgal, Bethel, Ramath, Shiloh, and Jericho. These bands of men were known as the "Sons of the Prophets" and were deeply dedicated to bringing revival to the land.

Two great spiritual leaders had led Israel up to this time: Moses and Joshua. Now Samuel took over that difficult task. Soon the scepter would pass to Saul, but the godly life of Samuel would continue to wield its influence over Israel for many years. It all started because a mother gave her child to God. From the beautiful story of Hannah bringing young Samuel to the tabernacle to be dedicated to God's service, the church has developed the ceremony of baby dedications. We give our babies back to God. May our children always be dedicated to Christ. One of them might become a spiritual giant like Samuel!

“And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the Lord, and wept sore.”
‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭1:10‬ ‭KJV‬‬
