PROPHET OF DREAMS / Draw Near Bible App

 PROPHET OF DREAMS

Working with the ultra-practical prophet Haggai was the mystical visionary Zechariah. While Haggai concerned himself with preaching about the material preparation of the second temple, Zechariah taught the proper spiritual preparation. They worked well together, and revival swept the land. Zechariah's book is the longest of the Minor Prophets, and in some ways, it is the most difficult to understand. His writing is highly spiritualized, and the symbolism is sometimes lost to the modern mind. Zachariah's style is like that of Isaiah, rising to peaks of power and beauty.

Perhaps the most thrilling feature of Zechariah's book is his seven famous prophecies about the coming Christ. The prophecies about Jesus included in this book are: (1) the triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday; (2) Judah's betrayal of Christ (even naming the price); (3) the piercing of Christ's side; (4) the shedding of Christ's blood for cleansing; (5) the scar and wounds in the Lord's hands and side; (6) Christ's arrest and the scattering of His followers; and (7) the personal return of Christ in glory for His followers.

Through visions, dreams, and symbolism, Zechariah reminds us we are involved in a spiritual work which cannot be done by might or power. Rather, our work is accomplished by the Spirit of God. Years later, Paul would remind believers of this same fact, saying we do not wrestle against flesh and blood. Therefore, we must use spiritual--not carnal--weapons. One of our greatest weapons in this great war is prayer. Dedicate yourself today to this task and win our world to Christ.

“Then he said to me, “This is what the Lord says to Zerubbabel: It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.”
‭‭Zechariah‬ ‭4:6‬ ‭NLT‬‬
