Holy Matrimony

The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses; and Aaron was set apart, he and his sons forever, that he should sanctify the most holy things, to burn incense before the LORD, to minister to Him, and to give the blessing in His name forever.
1 Chronicles 23:13

It’s Saturday and you’re going to paint the bedroom. You choose your oldest pair of shorts, most faded T-shirt, and rattiest sneakers and dedicate them to painting; you set them apart forever, never to be nice clothes again. In biblical terms, you have made those clothes holy.

That’s what the biblical word “holy” means; it means to set something apart for a special purpose. Aaron and his sons would never not be priests again; they would be priests forever. The vessels used in the tabernacle and temple to serve the Lord would never again be used for common tasks. Things change when something is set apart as holy. And the same is true for “holy matrimony.” When we commit ourselves to our spouse, we set ourselves apart for that person. We don’t live with one foot in marriage and one foot out. We are set aside as holy unto God and our spouse.

Being set apart means burning the bridges; there is no going back. Commit yourself afresh today in your set-apartness as a spouse.

A Single ThoughtLiving a holy life as a single person is a high calling, one that even the apostle Paul chose for himself.
