If You Will Let God Guide

Trust GOD from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for GOD’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; He’s the one who will keep you on track.
Proverbs 3:5-6, The Message

By working hard and living frugally, Georg Neumark, 20, saved enough for college. He packed a few bags and took off for the University of Konigsberg. Unfortunately, he was robbed along the way and lost everything except his prayer book and a few coins. Neumark wandered around, thinly dressed, cold, and hungry until he found a tutoring job. God provided for his needs, and he was able to enroll in the university the next year. Out of the experience Neumark wrote a tremendous hymn—still occasionally sung today: “If you will only let God guide you, and hope in Him through all your ways, / Whatever comes, He’ll stand beside you, to bear you through the evil days.”

One of Neumark’s verses reminds us to never “doubt our inmost wants are known / to Him who chose us for His own.”

God alone knows your inmost wants and needs. He created us with needs only He can meet, and if we will let Him guide us, He’ll meet our needs, strengthen our hearts, and bear us through the evil days.

A Single Thought: God’s purpose and plans may seem elusive at times, but are never far from those who seek Him.
