Tuesday, May 17 We Belong Together Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife…as being heirs together of the grace of life. 1 Peter 3:7 Recommended Reading 1 Peter 3:1-7 A story was overheard recently as two old men sat in a coffee shop talking about the recent death of one man’s wife. He told the story of how he saw her, fell in love with her, and married her. How she made him a better husband and daddy—made him a better worker and a better Christian. Then one day she became ill. It took two years of decline, weakness, and medication before the Lord took her home. During that time, the man continued to work twelve hours a day, and then would come home and take care of her. Ultimately feeding her and carrying her to bed at night. At her passing, he was lost. His friend said, “That must have been hard taking care of her.” The widowed man responded, “It was my privilege to serve my queen.” That is God’s view of marriage. Two people serving one another in love, making each other better. God is powerfully in favor of married love. It’s true that marriage isn’t for everyone. Neither Jesus nor Paul married; their God-ordained mission in life precluded it. But marriage is God’s idea. He defined its terms in the Garden of Eden and He blesses those who value its purpose and purity. A Single Thought: Shared goals and interests unite singles.  Read-Thru-the-Bible 2 Chronicles 35 – 36
