Mountaintop Experiences by David Jeremiah

Summer Getaways—Mountaintop Experiences

Then the LORD came down upon Mount Sinai, on the top of the mountain. And the LORD called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.
Exodus 19:20
Last fall, Dick Dreselly drove to the foot of Mount Washington, the tallest mountain in Northeast America. Tightening his $5 Goodwill sneakers, he started the rugged trail that would take him up 4,750 feet of vertical gain to the summit. Three days later he made it. “This is the last time I climb Mount Washington,” he said at the mountaintop. “At least until the next time.” He was celebrating his ninetieth birthday.1

Moses made a similar trip at age eighty. God came down to the mountaintop of Sinai, and Moses went up to meet Him. Perhaps we can’t hike up a tall mountain at age eighty or ninety, but we can do whatever we can, pushing ourselves to do a bit more, and never yielding to lazy impulses. Paul said, “Reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call…” (Philippians 3:13-14).
The Lord has mountaintop experiences for us whether we’re young or old. Don’t quit. Press onward toward the prize of the upward call.
I’ll go where you want me to go, dear Lord, / O’er mountain, or plain, or sea; / I’ll say what you want me to say, dear Lord, / I’ll be what You want me to be.
