NIV 365 / Responsible for Correction

The NIV 365-Day Devotional Reading Plan

Day 229 of 365

Responsible for Correction

What is a father guilty of if he doesn't discipline his children? Before you answer, take a look back at Eli's parenting style. Apparently Eli's sons (see 1 Samuel 2:12 - 17) acted wickedly. It probably wasn't the first time, and the passage makes no mention of Eli disciplining them. Maybe it was laziness or indifference on Eli's part. Maybe he was too busy with his work. Maybe he was more concerned about being his sons' friend. Maybe he didn't know where to start. Whatever the case, Eli suffered the consequences of his inaction. He was held just as responsible for his sons' sins as they were. That's how seriously God takes the responsibilities of parents.

REFLECT & PRAY:

*What steps are you taking to ensure that your children follow and obey God?
*In what ways do you discipline them or how should you begin to do so?
*What can you do to make your time with your children more enriching and fulfilling?
