Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators stand up and save you from these things that shall come upon you. Surely they shall be as stubble, the fire shall burn them…
—Isaiah 47:13-14 Devotion: The Bible very strongly condemns astrology, as we see in Isaiah 47. While initially God gave us heavenly signs to tell the story of Christ, unbelievers have perverted His message and have taken these heavenly signs to be deities that have an influence on our lives. Today this is hidden from view and it is supposedly the stars themselves that are exerting some influence upon our lives. This is utterly absurd. Some try to give credence to this claim by saying that the moon influences the tides, and that it influences people’s emotions, which is true. But the moon is 250,000 miles, or slightly less, away from the earth; whereas, stars are six thousand light-years and more away from the earth. (A light year is 3 ½ trillion miles. That is approximately 19½ quadrillion miles away—a figure so vast it is beyond our comprehension.) The stars do not exert any influence upon us and the deities that they supposedly represent are but the figments of people’s imaginations. We should not worship the stars but the One who made the stars! Question to ponder: Why do you think people are not content to seek guidance in God’s Word, but instead in the stars, in tarot cards, in tea leaves, and the like? |
