What Does it Mean to Be Great? by Adrian Rogers

December 3
What Does It Mean to Be Great?
“But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister.” Matthew 20:26
In Jesus’ day, the pagan Gentile princes had many servants--this was a mark of their greatness. To be great in God’s eyes, on the other hand, we are to be servants.
Do you want to be great? Then minister to others. There are some people who are great because they have servants. That is the pagan way. Jesus said that the measure of a Christian’s greatness is not the number of his servants but by how many men he serves.
Now, don’t miss this point. Jesus did not say for us not to be great. He said, “Be great, but just be certain that your greatness is measured in God’s economy.” That is sanctified ambition.
