Look Here

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Luke 10:38-42
Have you ever found yourself working for the Savior, but not listening to Him? That day when Mary and Martha had the privilege to have Jesus in their home, they each made a choice of what to do. Instead of looking at Jesus, Martha looked at her to-do list and at her sister, who sat at the feet of Jesus. Martha replaced her joy over having Jesus in their home with resentment.

Peter made a similar choice when he looked away from Jesus to the crashing waves. His faith and courage were replaced by doubt and fear as the power and devastation of the waves consumed his attention. When Jesus addresses their misplaced attention, His words remind us: It is never too late to return our focus to Him. There is room for Martha to sit at His feet. Jesus bolsters Peter’s faith by reaching out to save him.

What is consuming your attention and focus today? Regardless of how chaotic or overwhelming your situation may be, turn your attention to Jesus—He will supply the rest and refuge you need.

The Son of God Himself was a guest in her home. Listening to Him and worshiping Him were at that moment the very best use of Mary’s energies and the one right place for her to focus her attention.
