Tipping Point

But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Malcolm Gladwell’s book in 2000—The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference—was a popular explanation of how small things can cause big changes. The notion of a tipping point is widely understood in both positive and negative terms. Negatively, it’s the proverbial straw that breaks the camel’s back. Positively, it is one person making a change, attracting a large following, and starting a movement.

One individual taking a stand and influencing others happened in Scripture. Joshua said that he and his family would serve the Lord, not idols. Elijah challenged the prophets of Israel to serve God instead of Baal. And Andrew stepped out and followed Jesus, then recruited his brother, Peter. They influenced Philip who told Nathanael, and so on. It can be discouraging to be the only one ready to stand for God, especially in one’s own family or circle of friends. But you may represent the tipping point. Your stand for Christ can create a revival among those who are lukewarm. Your revival of your own spiritual life may cause others to do the same.

Make a commitment to be the one—the only one if necessary. Ask God to let you be a tipping point for revival.

We are not taking any risks when we step out on the Word of God.
