The Jesus Bible Reading Plan / BOASTING

The Jesus Bible Reading Plan

Day 168 of 365

BOASTING

Human wisdom, strength and wealth are not the highest reasons to boast. These three blessings, though significant, are fleeting and temporary. Their value is virtually nothing when compared with the undeserved honor of knowing the God of all.
The Lord led Jeremiah to encourage boasting as long as it glorifies God as the greatest of treasures. After all, God is the One whose very nature includes grace, even though he never compromises on justice. God is the only One whose every act is right and good. Knowing God, who delights in being God, is the greatest privilege and the only reason to boast.
Knowing certain facts about God is insufficient; truly knowing him requires having a relationship with him. This is only possible now through faith in Jesus and what he accomplished by his death and resurrection (Jn 14:6). The person made new in salvation should boast out of sheer gratitude (1Co 1:31), fully aware that nothing, compared to knowing Christ Jesus as Lord, amounts to anything (Php 3:7 - 8).
Jesus, don't let me boast in things that are fleeting. I only want to boast in you. Amen.

Jeremiah 9:23-24 NASB

23 Thus says the L ord , "Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; 24 but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things," declares the Lord .
