Lessons From a Shepherd: He Oversees Our Soul
August 19, 2017
For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

Sometimes an employee is offered a promotion and he or she says, “Thank you, but I’m good.” There could be many reasons for such a response, one of which is not wanting the burden of increased responsibility. Supervision and leadership come with a price. Perhaps not everyone wants to pay that price when the opportunity arises. No problem—it’s a matter of priorities and preferences.

What might Jesus’ response have been when offered the responsibility of becoming “Shepherd and Overseer” of all the human beings who willingly turned to God in repentance and faith? Fortunately, He said “Yes.” He paid the ultimate price to accomplish the Father’s will and become Overseer of our soul. And what does it mean for us? It means that Jesus Christ is both Shepherd and Overseer of your life—all of it. There is no aspect of your life to which He is not attentive. A human overseer—elder, pastor, boss, supervisor—may disappoint, but Jesus will not.
Put your faith in the One who willingly has said, “I will watch out for his soul; I will oversee her life.”
God’s cause is never in danger; what He has begun in the soul or in the world, He will complete unto the end.
