God acted swiftly to remind everyone that His holiness is not to be trifled with. God will not allow His glory to be belittled. God has used swift divine judgment against disobedience at the beginning of each new era (think of Achan in Joshua 7, Uzzah in 2 Samuel 6, and Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5). God's judgment against Nadab and Abihu showed all future generations the seriousness and the sanctity of relating to a holy God. Philips Brooks, the great nineteenth century preacher, said, "No sin can be little, because there is no little God to sin against."

Leviticus 10:1-3 NASB
