Talking Tombstones

By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks.
Hebrews 11:4

Just when we thought we’d heard it all, a cemetery in Slovenia has introduced digital tombstones with 48-inch interactive screens that are weather-proof and vandal-proof. At first glance, they look like any other gravestone; but if you stand in front of them for a few moments, their sensors are activated and they come to life, giving you interactive opportunities to learn all about the deceased—including pictures, videos, and sound through an app connected to cell phones, so as not to disturb other mourners.

Hmm…. Maybe that’s not a bad idea after all. Imagine being able to record our testimonies for everyone who walks past our graves. It gives new meaning to Hebrews 11:4: “…he being dead still speaks.”

Whatever the mode, we all want to leave a legacy of faith and obedience; and at the end of our earthly sojourns, we want God to have all the credit for any good we’ve done or any blessings we’ve imparted to others. Live today so, should God call you shortly home, you’ll leave behind the testimony of a Christ-devoted life filled with good deeds pointing to a loving Savior.

The reality of heaven doesn’t just help us die more peacefully; it helps us live more joyfully and productively.
David Jeremiah
