NKJV 365 Day Reading Plan / Healing

NKJV 365 Day Reading Plan

Day 270 of 365

Healing

I do not like snakes! I cringe in horror just thinking about a multitude of snakes writhing throughout the Israelite camp. Why was this happening?
These serpents were sent by God to chastise His ungrateful, angry children for their lack of trust in Him. Life was just not being lived on their terms.
Enter the snakes-God's judgment for their sin. Judgment, though, that was tempered by love and mercy and alert to cries for help. As the people repented, God provided deliverance in the form of a bronze snake set on a pole. All that was needed to live was to look at the serpent in faith.
Does this passage of scripture have a ring of familiarity to it? Jesus refers to this incident while talking to Nicodemus in John 3:14, 15. He explains that just as the serpent was lifted up, so the Son of Man will be lifted up, and whoever believes in Him will not perish.
The good news about snakes? The old Serpent, the devil, and all his fiery messengers were defeated at the Cross.

Numbers 21:4-9 NASB

4 Then they set out from Mount Hor by the way of the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom; and the people became impatient because of the journey. 5 The people spoke against God and Moses, "Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we loathe this miserable food."

The Bronze Serpent

6 The L ord sent fiery serpents among the people and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died. 7 So the people came to Moses and said, "We have sinned, because we have spoken against the L ord and you; intercede with the L ord , that He may remove the serpents from us." And Moses interceded for the people. 8 Then the L ord said to Moses, "Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a standard; and it shall come about, that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, he will live." 9 And Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on the standard; and it came about, that if a serpent bit any man, when he looked to the bronze serpent, he lived.
