NKJV 365 / The Warrior Woman

NKJV 365 Day Reading Plan

Day 251 of 365

The Warrior Woman

Women were not usually given a place of leadership in the Old Testament, but there were some notable exceptions. Deborah was one. She was chosen by God to be a prophetess and to serve as judge in Israel. Hers was the highest office in the land.
When she informed Barak that it was God's will for him to lead an army against the Canaanites, he insisted that she accompany him, for it was through her that he would receive his instructions from the Lord. The fact that she was a woman did not bother him, for he knew she had been chosen and anointed by God. By having her accompany him in battle he could be assured of God's presence and blessing.
But Deborah did not attribute their success to herself or to Barak, but to the Lord. He was the one to whom all praise and thanksgiving were directed in the celebration of their victory.
