The Jesus Bible Reading Plan / THE LAMB AS SHEPHERD

The Jesus Bible Reading Plan

Day 288 of 365

THE LAMB AS SHEPHERD

In Luke 15:1 - 7 Jesus told the parable of the lost sheep, recounting the joy that a shepherd experiences when he finds one lost sheep. Revelation 7 infinitely multiplies this as it depicts all of God's lost sheep being found, and Jesus is shown as both Lamb and shepherd. John describes great worship and praise in verses 10 and 12, which recalls the rejoicing that Jesus described in Luke 15:6 - 7.
Furthermore, John wrote here that this Lamb will shepherd his people "to springs of living water." Jesus promised this living water in John 4:14, where he declared that anyone who follows him will be given water that leads to eternal life. It is this exact water to which the Lamb is leading the great multitude of people in Revelation 7. No longer will there be sadness or tears (v. 17), but there will only be cause for rejoicing as the Lamb leads his sheep into eternal refreshment and rejoicing.
Jesus, you are both the worthy Lamb and the Good Shepherd. Thank you for the Holy Spirit, who leads me to a future that will be free of sadness. Amen.

Revelation 7:17 NASB

17 for the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and will guide them to springs of the water of life; and God will wipe every tear from their eyes."

Luke 15:1-7 NASB

1 Now all the tax collectors and the sinners were coming near Him to listen to Him. 2 Both the Pharisees and the scribes began to grumble, saying, "This man receives sinners and eats with them."

3 So He told them this parable, saying, 4 "What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep and has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open pasture and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?  5 When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.  6 And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!'  7 I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.
