All That Thrills My Soul by David Jeremiah

Tuesday, December 12
All That Thrills My Soul

You thrill me, Lord, with all You have done for me! I sing for joy because of what You have done.
Psalm 92:4, NLT

Earlier this year a thrill seeker in the United Kingdom became the oldest person ever to skydive. Verdun Hayes got the idea to skydive about the time he turned 90, but his wife wouldn’t let him. After she passed away, he decided to make the tandem attempt at age 101, and it was a success. “Beautiful!” he said afterward, “Really, I’d do it again tomorrow.”

The word thrill means “a wave of emotion or excitement that causes a joyful sensation through our being.” God has filled our world with things to thrill us—sunrises, sunsets, the births of our children, rousing hymns of praise, and the various experiences we encounter along the way—like skydiving.

But nothing thrills us like Jesus. In our journey with God, we need to make it a priority to pursue a deeper knowledge of Him. It’s not just a matter of growing wiser. It’s a matter of abiding in Christ. As hymnist Thoro Harris put it:

All that thrills my soul is Jesus,
He is more than life to me;
And the fairest of ten thousand,
In my blessed Lord I see.
