Day 344 of 365 REMISSION OF SINS Jesus' power over sin had been called into question early in his ministry. Witnessing the faith of a group of people who made an extraordinary effort to bring their paralyzed friend to him for healing, Jesus said, "Friend, your sins are forgiven" (Lk 5:20). The Pharisees and teachers of the law recognized that only God could forgive sins - and not believing that Jesus was indeed God, they accused him of blasphemy. After Jesus' resurrection, there was no longer room for questioning or doubt. In defeating death, Jesus proved he was neither a pretender nor a blasphemer but the very Son of God. This victory over death signaled his divine authority to forgive sin. Luke connects the preaching of the life-changing, sin-defeating gospel with Christ's resurrection. The good news of repentance and remission of sins, which the disciples began preaching following Jesus' ascension and the coming of the Holy Spirit in power, is rooted in this fundamental truth: In fulfillment of God's promises in Scripture, Christ suffered and died and was raised to life on the third day. Death is defeated; sin's power is broken. The remission of sins is now available to all who believe in the powerful name of Jesus. Jesus, you are God, and you have the power to forgive sins. Thank you for forgiving mine. I praise your powerful name. Amen. Luke 24:46-47 NASB 46 and He said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day,  47 and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
