Learning to Share by David Jeremiah

Learning to Share

So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.
2 Corinthians 9:7

Parents begin early. As soon as their first child has a sibling or is around other children, the teaching begins with these words, “You need to share….” The response to this counsel can be challenging at first—even to the point of experiencing temper tantrums and tears from the child.

The secret every parent knows is that when a child learns to share, they learn to value others. As parents, if we recognize that giving and sharing are vital to our child’s quality of life and connection to others, it is important that we also recognize that this wisdom comes from God.

The truth is—everything comes from God—it all belongs to Him. God does not require anything from us; yet, He knows it is good for us to remember His gifts. When we give with a grateful and joyful heart, it is in response to God’s goodness and love. Giving to God is also an act of faith as we trust Him not only for our daily provision but for our future as well.

The joy of giving is learned like a child who discovers how to share—it begins when we cheerfully give to God.

We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give.
