Three Spiritual Rs by David Jeremiah

Three Spiritual Rs

I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel.
Galatians 1:6

On a hike in the mountains, you come to a fork in the trail and choose what you think is the right path. But after a couple miles, you realize you should have taken the other path. Venturing off the trail farther along, you realize that a very steep ravine now separates you from the other trail. You realize you will have to hike back to the fork and take the other trail to reach your destination.

That is what is meant by repentance: Change your mind and direction; return and take the path of righteousness. That was the message of Christ to the first-century church at Ephesus. They had “left their first love”—their love for Christ. His words to them were, “Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works” (Revelation 2:5). Remember and repent in order to be restored. Remembering produces the goal; repenting gets you back to the goal; restoration is the fruit of remembering and repentance.

If you need to repent of anything in your life, remember the goal and go back to it. There is no other way to be restored.

Christianity starts with repentance.
D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
