Everyone likes a success story. Horatio Alger stories told of the rise of a hometown boy to the pinnacles of success. All of us can identify with those who go from obscurity to fame without sacrificing their principles. Let us look at the secret of success of one of the most powerful and prominent men who ever lived.
Born in the small tribe of Ephraim, Joshua eventually became an aide of Moses and then Israel's leader during the conquest of the Promised Land. He was perhaps the greatest military man who ever lived. Scripture hints in Exodus 33:11 why Joshua became such a powerful leader. When all the others left for home from a prayer meeting, Joshua stayed and sought the Lord. No doubt, in these moments, God spoke to the young man's heart and gave him the burning hunger for the things of God that never left him. It was natural for the mantle of leadership to fall on him because he was ready spiritually.
In our uncertain century, there is still room for youths who hesitate leaving God's house of prayer. And every person--young or old--can have that dynamic ministry of waiting before God for the souls of men. The greatest revival this world has ever known can and will come through prayer. We, like Joshua, must not depart from the tabernacle.
“And the Lord spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.”
Exodus 33:11 KJV
