And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
1 John 2:1
Arlene Blanchard grew up in a violent Cleveland, Ohio, housing project, and her life was hard from the very beginning. She sometimes wished she’d never been born. She dreamed of being a lethal weapon and even considered becoming an assassin. Joining the army, she was stationed in Italy and Alaska, and spent much of her time drinking and carousing. One morning when she saw herself in the mirror, she felt horrified at the person she had become. That’s when she remembered how her mother prayed for her. “I soon learned that no matter how hard I ran, I couldn’t outrun her prayers.” Shortly thereafter, she gave her heart to Christ in a small Alaskan church.1
A mother’s prayers are powerful; but One Person intercedes for us with even greater might—Jesus Christ, our Advocate, our Great High Priest. If anyone is going to intercede for us, we want someone who is appointed, approved, and accredited. In the spiritual realm, there is only One who can serve in that role—Jesus Himself.
If you don’t like the person you’re becoming, remember Who is interceding for you and place your trust in Him.
Jesus’ intercession for us is far stronger than Satan’s accusations against us.
