Women's Lib exploded on our world with fury and fanfare. Many of the complaints that feminists make are justified: no doubt men have often been guilty of seeing women only as sex objects. To dehumanize women is not God's will or way. Rather than merely rant against the injustice, however, perhaps it would be better to see what God does say about women's rights.
The Bible notes that the destinies of woman and man are intertwined and inseparable. Neither sex could long exist without the cooperation of the other. God's Word clearly says: Your desire shall be for your husband (Genesis 3:16). Paul picks up this idea of lives intertwined by saying: ...Woman is the glory of man. For man is not from woman, but woman from man. Nor was man created for the woman, but woman for the man...neither is man independent of woman, nor woman independent of man, in the Lord. For as woman came from man, even so man also comes through woman; but all things are from God (1 Corinthians 11:7-12).
When couples disregard their obligations to each other, they only hurt themselves. The man who insists on living in his own world and excluding his wife is asking for great grief. The woman who shuts her husband out of her personal life can never develop a meaningful and lasting happiness. God molded man and woman together in the life process. Woman was made out of man, and man comes out of woman. This is the process by which God intends life to go on.
