Draw Near / THE UNFINISHED FACES

THE UNFINISHED FACES

Near Atlanta, three massive unfinished faces stare out over the peaceful Georgia countryside. A half century has passed and over two million dollars has been spent, yet the carved faces of Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and Stonewall Jackson remain incomplete. Sculptor Gutzom Borglum had a dream to make this tribute similar to Mount Rushmore, but years of discouragement made him abandon the project. Another sculptor took over, but discouragement also drove him away.

After months in a dark prison, deep discouragement settled over John the Baptist. He dreamed Christ would carve out a new Kingdom, but it seemed slow in coming. In despair, John sent friends to ask if Christ indeed was the Messiah. Jesus, understanding the nature of discouragement, sent back the glowing report of mighty miracles. He then told them: And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me. Basically this means, "Happy is the person who doesn't question how I run my business."

Discouragement comes to all. Rather than abandoning our faith, we, like John, need to go directly to Jesus for reinforcement. Christ understands our feelings and constantly ministers to our needs. We can lift up our hearts for we have a King.

“Jesus told them, “Go back to John and tell him what you have heard and seen— the blind see, the lame walk, those with leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor.” And he added, “God blesses those who do not fall away because of me. ””
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:4-6‬ ‭NLT‬‬
