Fellow Workers by David Jeremiah

Fellow Workers

At this I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers and sisters who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God!”
Revelation 19:10, NIV

The apostle John was so overcome by the majesty of the angel who spoke to him in Revelation 19:10 that he fell down to worship him. But the angel told him to worship God alone. From this verse, we can learn two truths about angels.

First, they are fellow servants with us. Humans are created by God to serve Him, and so are angels. Right now, we (humans and angels) operate in two different realms—seen and unseen. But one day these realms will merge into eternity and we’ll work alongside angels as naturally as working with a team of friends. Even now, unseen angels assist us more than we know.

Second, angels should never be objects of our worship. They are created to worship God, not for us to worship them. The worship of angels has never been part of a biblical faith. But, oh, the joy of joining the heavenly host in never-ending praises to our eternal Creator.

Fulfilling God’s will is an eternal pursuit, both for us and for angels, both in heaven and on earth.
David Jeremiah
