Draw Near / KNOW THE SOURCE

KNOW THE SOURCE

A lawyer recently told a group of students how to be a successful attorney, "The successful lawyer," he said, "is not the one who commits to memory or even understands all the laws of the nation or the state. Rather, he is the one who knows where to find these laws, their interpretation, and their application." Today, we read about this idea in God's Word. When David needed direction, he always turned to the Lord Who faithfully told him what to do.

There may have been many things about God that David did not understand. However, there was one thing he knew, and that was the source of his strength and direction. Throughout the Bible account of David, we see where time after time he sought God's direction or permission. He knew he was not a self-made man but a "God-made man." Although he may not have known every detail concerning the law, he knew the Lawgiver.

The Bible is a book of principles rather than platitudes. Therefore, it is far more important to know the Savior personally than just to know about the Savior. To be successful Christians, we, like David, must really know the Source of our strength. James reminds us: If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him (James 1:5).

“And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the Lord said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.”
‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭14:10‬ ‭KJV‬‬
