Draw Near / REACTING TO REVIVAL

REACTING TO REVIVAL

Two puppies were thrown into a backyard wading pool by their playful master. One yelped hysterically while the other romped and played in the cool water. The master observed that the difference was not in the pool but in the pups.

A joyful day had come to Israel. The ark, symbol of God's presence, was being returned after a long captivity. David led the people in joyful worship, and he even leaped and danced before the Lord. However David's wife reacted very badly, despising her husband and mocking him for his emotional display. The difference between the two was not in the event but in their hearts. David loved God so much he cared little about what others might think; Michal was so filled with pride that hatred for her husband entered her. God punished her severely for this reaction.

When great revival comes, there are those like David who lose themselves in the presence of God. Sadly, there are those like Michal who lose themselves in their own pride. David had the answer. He said he danced before the Lord caring little about what others thought. David only desired to please God through his worship. This, too, should be our desire. We seek not the approval of man but the approval of God.

“And David said unto Michal, It was before the Lord, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel: therefore will I play before the Lord.”
‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭6:21‬ ‭KJV‬‬
