Souls for Christ by David Jeremiah

Souls for Christ

Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God…is that they may be saved.
Romans 10:1

David Brainerd was a young, sickly evangelist with a burden for Native American tribes in the Northeast. On July 21, 1744, he wrote in his journal, “Towards night my burden respecting my work among the Indians began to increase much…. I began to be in anguish…. I withdrew for prayer, hoping for strength from above. And in prayer I was exceedingly enlarged, and my soul was as much drawn out as ever I remember it to have been in my life…. I was in such anguish, and pleaded with so much earnestness and importunity, that when I rose from my knees I felt extremely weak and overcome, I could scarcely walk straight…the sweat ran down my face and body.”

Brainerd lived long enough to see evidences of awakening among the tribes he sought to reach, and his journal and biography played an enormous role in inspiring the great missionary movement of the nineteenth century.

Jesus’ passion is for people to be saved, a passion we must share. Do you have a prayer list of unsaved family and friends? Are you praying for someone now who needs Christ?

I cared not where or how I lived, or what hardships I went through, so that I could but gain souls to Christ.
David Brainerd
