Diligence by David Jeremiah

Diligence

Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.
Proverbs 4:23
Moses had a favorite adverb in the book of Deuteronomy. See if you can detect it: “Only take heed to yourself, and diligently keep yourself, let you forget the things your eyes have seen…. You shall teach them diligently to your children…. You shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God…. Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth… (4:9, 6:7, 6:17, 28:1).

Romans 12:6-13
The apostle Paul was fond of the same word. He warned us to never lag in diligence (Romans 12:11), to abound in all diligence (2 Corinthians 8:7), and to be diligent to present ourselves approved to God (2 Timothy 2:15).
The word “diligent” means to make a constant, earnest, and sustained effort in what we undertake. It’s one thing to follow the Lord Jesus, and it’s another to do so with diligence. The quality of diligence authenticates our experience and makes us a blessing to others. So keep your heart with all diligence, and serve Christ the same way!
