CALL TO COLORS

On Gettysburg's battlefield stands a monument in memory of a brave color bearer who became isolated from his company during the heat of the battle. The company retreated, but the boy remained, proudly holding up the flag. The commanding officer sent a messenger to him saying, "Bring the colors back to the regiment." The boy's classic reply was, "No, bring the regiment back to the colors."

Habakkuk called Israel back to the colors through his historic prayer. This plea was "on Shigionoth" or "with great excitement and sincerity." Habakkuk knew Israel had long lost the intense glow of revival, so he prayed God would restore their vision (Habakkuk 3).

In these times, more Habakkuks are needed to call the religious regiments back to the colors of the cross. Many churches have retreated from the battlefield, routed by the enemy of men's souls. Today, may we sincerely pray that God continue to sweep the world with intense revival. Let us pray that soldiers of the cross will be called back to commitment. This can, and will, happen as we plead in prayer with the Lord of our harvest.

“LORD, I have heard the report about You and I fear. O LORD, revive Your work in the midst of the years, In the midst of the years make it known; In wrath remember mercy.”
‭‭Habakkuk‬ ‭3:2‬ ‭NASB‬‬
