LEADERSHIP

Harry Truman displayed a sign on his desk that said, "The buck stops here." Such a sign could very well be placed over the life of every husband. Man was made head of the home by God, not because he is any better than the wife but simply because someone has to be in authority. Since man was created first, God gave him this role: And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. For Adam was formed first, then Eve (1 Timothy 2:12-13). This is not a male-chauvinist view but simply a statement concerning lines of authority.

In all of life, we have someone to whom we are in subjection. It may be a boss, a customer, or an authority in our city. Every man and woman is under subjection. This does not necessarily mean those in authority are wiser or better qualified than we. It simply means that if a society is to survive, someone has to assume the role of leader. God set the husband as head of the house and insists he assume this role.

This does not mean the husband may lord it over his wife. We must remember that Christ is Head of the church, yet we see Him as He takes the towel and bowl to wash the disciples' feet. Real leadership is humility. Jesus said: And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave--just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many (Matthew 20:27). Thus, as husbands assume their role of leadership in the home, they should do so with the attitude of Christ.

“In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered.”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭3:7‬ ‭NLT‬‬
