What a person laments over is a real indication of their character.
When I was in seminary, I heard a comment from one of my professors that has stayed with me all these years. He said our problem as Christians is that the things that break God’s heart—the things He mourns over and weeps over—are not breaking ours.
When we come to the place where we loathe those things that nailed Jesus to the cross, and we gladly acknowledge our own iniquity; when we come to Him in heartfelt confession and repentance, that’s when real revival starts—in our hearts, in the life of our churches and out into the life of our cities.
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to strive to be more like You every day. Above all else, we want to care about the things that please You and bring You glory. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
