The Origin of Woman, WOMEN IN GOD’S DESIGN.
When God presented the woman to Adam, this text reveals how immediately Adam recognized something of himself in her. She was part of himself (see Eph. 5:28, 29); in effect, his “other self.” God then instructed that they should “be joined” (cleave) and “become one flesh.” The effectiveness of the woman in God’s unfolding design would greatly depend on whether or not the man would receive her from God’s hand — a principle that may initially apply within marriage, but extends from there to the church and society as a whole.
