Forgiveness
How often shall my brother sin against me? That is the question in our hearts whenever someone wrongs us. How long do I have to let this go on? When is enough really enough? We desperately want to show we have done our part and then draw a line in the sand. Unfortunately, Jesus won’t allow it. He redefines what our part is. He leads us gently back to realize how desperately we need forgiveness. He casts us in the story as the one who is in great debt, that we might find new strength to forgive another. How can we not forgive if we remember all that He has forgiven us? Whenever we have trouble extending grace and forgiveness, we can go back to our fresh need to find grace and discover there is enough there to give away.

“Then Peter came and said to Him, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus *said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.”
Matthew 18:21-22
