August 17 / NKJV 365

Peter started out well. He did not impetuously leap out of the boat, but asked the Lord to bid him walk on the water. And Jesus said, “Come!” (14:29). That’s always a wise way to operate! Soon, however, Peter let circumstances get the better of him. By focusing on the danger of his call, he forgot the Lord’s word. That’s when he sank. Do you want to grow in faith? Then lock your eyes on Jesus (Heb. 12:2). Corrie Ten Boom once said, “Look without and be distressed. Look within and be depressed. Look at Jesus and be at rest.”

“Peter said to Him, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” And He said, “Come!” And Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But seeing the wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him, and *said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?””

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭14:28-31‬
