Making Smart Choices / David Jeremiah

Making Smart Choices

I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you.
1 Kings 3:12

Sadly, we don’t always make wise decisions in life. No one does, but few of us do something as foolish as a thief in Nashville. He broke into a residence and stole a TV and a gun, among other items. But he accidently left behind his notebook listing all the other houses he was robbing. Furthermore, inside the notebook his daughter had written her name and address. It didn’t take long for the authorities to locate him.[1]

None of us are going to get very far if we perpetually make foolish decisions. As a young man Solomon knew that even the privileges he enjoyed in life—his royal position, his famous father, his nation’s support, and his great goal of building the temple—wouldn’t get him far without wisdom. He recognized he was like a little child in comparison to God and His knowledge.

So are we! Like a child asking a father, let’s ask our Savior for practical, every day, commonsense wisdom—the kind that will take us far in life.

God gives us wisdom when we seek His knowledge and understanding instead of relying on our own.
