The prophet Jeremiah connected the stability of the universe to the faithfulness of God. Just as the sun rises every morning, so are God’s compassion and mercy “new every morning.” It’s not as if God turns off His mercy and compassion overnight and turns them on again in the morning. What Jeremiah meant was, God’s mercy and compassion never cease because God is faithful. His words are fulfilled; He keeps His promises; His blessings remain (Numbers 23:19-20).
Here’s the question: If God keeps the universe running on time, can we not trust Him to be faithful in the details of our life? Yes, we can! God’s words, promises, and blessings—along with His compassion and mercy—are new for us every morning.
He’s been faithful, faithful to me. Looking back, His love and mercy I see. Carol Cymbala |
