Lightning Speed / David Jeremiah

Lightning Speed

The Lord thundered from heaven… He sent out His arrows and scattered the foe.
Psalm 18:13-14

Jacob Knapp was a fearless American Baptist preacher in the 1800s. One February in Rochester, New York, he announced he was going to preach against the sins of the local gambling dens. The church was packed with supporters, but a mob of about a thousand people surrounded the building. Suddenly a stone whizzed through the window to the pulpit, and instantly a flash of lightning and a blast of thunder caused everyone inside and outside the church to jump. A minute later, another rock was thrown; but it, too, was followed by a dramatic flash and boom of weather loud enough to shake the ground. The same sequence occurred a minute later. It’s as though the Lord was fighting the protesters, blow by blow, with lightning bolts and peals of thunder. The crowd ran in fear, and Knapp preached to the worshipers.[1]

We never know how often the Lord takes our side and watches our back. There’s no safer place than in the center of His will and no greater message than the Gospel of His Son.

Don’t fear the mob. Serve the Master!

No one regrets, at the hour of death, that he had felt too much, given too much, or done too much for Christ, or to save souls.
Jacob Knapp
