Personal Holiness He is the kind of high priest we need because he is holy and blameless, unstained by sin. Hebrews 7:26, NLT What’s the best way to remove a stain from a shirt? That’s something everyone needs to know. The American Cleaning Institute suggests soaking the stain in cold water, treating it with a prewash stain remover, then washing it with a liquid laundry detergent. But there’s a better answer—not to stain the shirt to begin with.

James 1:27 tells us to keep ourselves “unstained from the world” (CSB). Yes, we have the stain-removing power of the blood of Jesus Christ, without which we’d be lost. But the Lord desires that we avoid the stains and smudges of sin altogether. The words personal holiness are missing from the Christian vocabulary of too many of us. God wants us to cultivate holiness in our life, just as He is holy.  What habit do you need to improve? What sin do you need to forsake or attitude do you need to change? Ask God to help you in your words and actions each day. Let’s present ourselves to Him as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable to Him, which is our reasonable service (Romans 12:1). There is a gap between our love for the gospel and our love for godliness. This must change. Kevin DeYoung
