Smell a Rat? / David Jeremiah

Smell a Rat?

The Lord will perfect that which concerns me.
Psalm 138:8

New York City recently advertised for a new position in city government—a rat czar. The official title is Director of Rodent Mitigation. The position pays between $120,000 and $170,000, and it comes as New Yorkers are increasingly fed up with the repugnant creatures.

Down the dark alleyways and in the basement levels of our hearts, the devil wants to create an environment where all kinds of nasty thoughts, habits, addictions, and attitudes can multiply. It’s the Lord who knows how to shine a bright light into the hidden reaches of our personalities and perfect that which concerns us. He is perfecting us.

How wonderful to know that one day the heavenly process will be complete and we’ll be perfect! But until then, let’s work to eradicate sin and sinful habits. Let’s live with increasing holiness while we anticipate the day we’ll be pure, perfect, sinless, and beyond the reach of temptation. Then we will worship and serve Him perfectly and forever.

We never want to look at any area of our life and say, “Rats!”

Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of thy holy Name. Amen.
